There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel complex that contains many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
